No more mowing

Artificial grass is a low-maintenance choice for your garden. There’s no need to mow, there are no bald patches, safe for children and pets and shady areas aren’t a problem. Artificial grass is the ideal solution for those who want a lawn without the hassle.

Our Fitting Service

  • Step 1

    Remove Current Turf
The process begins with the removal of existing turf in your garden. For smaller areas, this is typically done using a spade, while larger spaces may require the use of a sod-cutting machine for quicker and more efficient removal. Once the turf is uprooted, it is disposed of in compliance with the community's organic waste disposal regulations.
  • Step 2

    Level Ground
Next, we need to make the ground completely level before the fake grass is laid down. To do this, we spread around 1-1½ inches of builders' sand on the area to create a level surface and use a landscaping rake to evenly distribute it. Then, we compact the sand with a tamper or 2X2 piece of plywood and a rubber hammer until it’s firm and level.
  • Step 3

    Place Weed Barrier
After this, we start putting down a weed barrier which dramatically reduces the chances of weeds poking through your grass. We roll it out to completely cover the area and allow the edges to overlap at any joints by several inches. Then we can safely trim with a utility knife to secure it into place, using landscaping staples every three or four feet.
  • Step 4

    Place Grass
To achieve the most natural result, our team roll it out to make every blade bend towards the same direction. This is mainly done because artificial grass has a grain to it which means that it bends slights rather than standing up straight. If we are using more than one width of turf, we will stagger the end seams so it doesn't line up in a row. We will trim the edges with a utility knife from the back side, being extra careful that we don't cut any of the turf.
  • Step 5

    Trim & Cut
Our turfs usually come in a width of 12 to 15 feet and therefore if the space is wider than this, the pieces will need to be joined together. To do this we trim the edges of each piece with our knife, taking extra precautions in order to not cut the turf. Then, we will roll the pieces back and put jointing tape underneath where the connection needs to be. Next, we apply the artificial turf next on the jointing tape and layer the next one with it in order to match up the edges and stop overlapping.
  • Step 6

    Nail Down Grass
Our next step involves us nailing down the artificial grass with 7-inch lawn spikes using a rubber hammer. Each nail is spaced out about 4 feet. We take our time with the nailing process in order to keep the nails hidden from sight.
  • Step 7

    Clean & Brush
Finally, once the turf is completely laid down, we will brush the entire lawn with a stiff bristled brush which always helps fluff up turf blades. As well as this, if sand has blown everywhere we may hose it down if we can.

The benefits of artificial grass

Artificial grass is perfect for designing your dream garden and is suitable for front and back gardens. Artificial grass has become an increasingly popular choice for homeowners, recreational facilities, and professional sports stadiums in recent years.

This is mainly because the maintenance-free benefits make it easier to look after all year round. The ability for it to stay a nice length and keeps its green appearance all year round, make it a stand out choice.

Fake Vs Real Grass

Artificial grass, also known as synthetic turf, is made from synthetic materials such as polyethylene and is designed to imitate the look and feel of natural grass. Unlike natural grass, it does not require mowing, watering, or fertilising, making it a low-maintenance option for those who want a hassle-free lawn.

Artificial grass is also durable and can withstand heavy foot traffic and exposure to the elements, making it a popular choice for sports fields and high-traffic areas. However, artificial grass can get hot in direct sunlight and does not provide the same natural cooling effect as natural grass.

Natural grass, on the other hand, is a living plant that grows in soil and requires regular maintenance such as mowing, watering, and fertilising to stay healthy and lush. Natural grass provides a natural cooling effect, helps regulate soil temperature, and provides a habitat for wildlife. It also helps improve air quality by producing oxygen and filtering pollutants. However, natural grass can be more challenging to maintain, especially in areas with harsh climates or heavy foot traffic.

Ultimately, the choice between artificial grass and natural grass will depend on individual preferences, the intended use of the lawn, and the local climate.

Frequently Asked Questions

The cost of artificial grass varies significantly depending on the quality, brand, type, and where you purchase it from. On average, you can expect to pay between £5 to £20 per square foot. This price usually includes the grass itself but not always the cost of installation, which can add an additional £5 to £10 per square foot. Please note that these are rough estimates and prices can vary.

Cleaning artificial grass is straightforward. Remove any large debris such as leaves or twigs by hand or using a leaf blower. For smaller debris, a stiff brush can be used. To clean off dirt or dust, simply hose down the grass. For any stains, use a mixture of warm water and a mild detergent, then rinse. If you have pets and they use the artificial grass, pick up solid waste as you would normally and hose down the area to remove any residue. Some people also use a specialised artificial grass cleaner for a deeper clean.

Artificial grass can be laid on a variety of surfaces such as soil, concrete, tarmac, paving, and decking. The most important thing is that the surface is properly prepared beforehand. This often involves removing any existing grass, weeds or stones, then laying a weed membrane, followed by a layer of sand or similar to level the area and ensure proper drainage.

Yes, high-quality artificial grass is safe for all pets. It’s non-toxic and provides a durable and comfortable surface for pets to play on. However, if your pet likes to dig, they may try to dig into the artificial turf, which could damage it, requiring repair. Also, if your pet defecates on the grass, it should be cleaned up promptly to maintain hygiene.

Yes, one of the main advantages of artificial grass is that it’s easy to maintain. It doesn’t require watering, mowing, or fertilizing like natural grass. General maintenance includes keeping it clean by removing debris and rinsing off dust or dirt. If the grass becomes flat, a stiff brush can be used to fluff up the blades. Despite this, it is still a good idea to occasionally deep clean your artificial grass, particularly if you have pets.

Artificial grass installed by Limitless Groundworks is designed for longevity and durability. The lifespan can vary depending on usage and maintenance, but typically, high-quality artificial grass can last between 15 to 20 years. Factors such as UV stabilisation, foot traffic, and adherence to maintenance guidelines play crucial roles in extending its lifespan. Limitless Groundworks ensures the use of premium materials and professional installation techniques to maximize the durability of the artificial grass.

Yes, the artificial grass provided by Limitless Groundworks is pet-friendly. It offers a safe and hygienic environment for pets to play and relax. The grass is designed to be hard-wearing and resistant to pet activities. Additionally, it’s easy to clean and does not retain odors, making it ideal for pet owners. Regular cleaning with water and mild detergent is sufficient to maintain hygiene. The grass’s drainage system ensures any pet waste is easily washed away, preventing the buildup of bacteria and odors.
